According to a study conducted by NAFI analytical center, today Russians understand biometrics better: in 2020 this term was understood correctly by a little more than half of the population (54%), while in 2021 already 74% of people understand this term. The biometric methods that a large number of people in Russia know about are fingerprint, face and voice recognition.

When the respondents were talking about the situations in which such authentication methods are required, they most often mentioned unlocking gadgets, opening applications or making contactless payments (84%), accessing premises (69%) and getting banking services at a bank branch or through an ATM (65%).

Most of the respondents are aware that it is necessary to submit biometric data in order to ensure safety in public places (for example, recognizing faces using video surveillance cameras), and when people apply for a passport, obtain a visa or go through passport control.
