Data Insight presents the ‘Last Mile in E-commerce’ study. The main conclusions of the study are as follows:

  • In the first quarter of 2021 290 million packages were delivered in the e-commerce market. The share of stores’ own delivery services increased by 7 pp. - 71% compared to 64% in Q1 of 2020. The growth is primarily driven by Ozon and Wilberries marketplaces.
  • In terms of the share of orders and sales in 2020, the leaders are Moscow and the Moscow Oblast - in total, 33% of all Russian orders and purchases were made in this region. In 69 regions out of 85 the average receipt amount in 2020 was lower than in 2019.
  • The last mile processes are getting more complicated. Courier services are forced to undertake new tasks and engage in additional activities.
  • In 2020 the demand for express delivery has grown. This led to the emergence and rapid development of new delivery models - delivery within a limited radius through a network of dark stores and delivery with a click.
