An experimental base for testing “smart” vehicles will be built in Russia for 600 million rubles. It will be built in NAMI testing area by September 2022. The project is supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and car manufacturers. Today almost all manufacturers have models with advanced driver assistance systems and communication for data exchange, the experts claim.

On the basis of NAMI testing ground, a model of urban traffic with smart infrastructure equipped with V2X technology - data exchange with cars (data on the speed, brakes and components wear , driving video recording, etc.) - will be created. The total length of the road within the testing area will be 20 km. The test site will allow to carry out full-sale tests with simulation of many road situations, test vehicle automation components and systems analyzing the behavior of highly-automated vehicles.

Project executors are NAMI, NP GLONASS and “Smarts” company.
