Beeline asked to extend the lease of capacities on foreign satellites for certain communication channels that the operator has been using since 2017. The application should be considered on January 31 at a meeting of the State Commission for Radio Frequencies (GRFC).

The beeline clarified that they had not fully completed the transition to domestic satellites, so the operator still has separate channels operating through foreign spacecraft. For this, the technology of communication of two satellite earth stations with each other (Single Channel Per Carrier) is used.

The company also clarified that the extension of the lease will have a positive impact on all operators using this type of communication. “Currently, Russian satellites are not provided with an additional reserve, and if one of them fails, there is a high risk of a communication break,” the beeline said.

Earlier it was reported about the plans of the SCRF to consider the issue of extending the permission to use frequencies for satellite communications through foreign devices. The last decision was made in 2017. According to Izvestia, the FSB opposed the extension. At the same time, during the preliminary discussions, it was decided to create a working group to resolve the issue.
