Kaspersky Lab acquired 15% of Motiv NT, a neuromorphic processors developer. The deal value was not specified, but could amount to “several tens of millions of rubles” due to the demand for high-tech products development in the country, according to Artur Shubaev, vice president of Advance Capital.
Kaspersky Lab says, becoming a Motiv NT shareholder will allow using neuromorphic technologies to “form the global technological ecosystem of the company”. The share is planned to increase in the coming years.
The architecture of neuromorphic processors, which is based on the principles of the human brain operation, makes them faster and more energy efficient than other chips. The processors are therefore more suitable for artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. Commercial solutions based on such chips are expected to be used to create fully autonomous vehicles, as well as in face recognition systems, robotics, IoT enterprise devices and in other areas.
