The Russian manufacturer of computer equipment Kraftway plans to launch production of memory controllers (a microchip for writing, deleting and storing information in memory chips in solid state drives) in 2023. They will be compatible with the memory standards of YMTC, Micron and Toshiba factories. The company intends to reach a production volume of 1 million solid-state drives per year within 2-3 years.
According to Renat Yusupov, senior vice president of Kraftway, the Russian market for end products with controllers can now be estimated at 6-7 million units, and the company expects to occupy 10-15% of the market.
The technical characteristics of the microcontrollers will be as follows: the sequential read speed will be of 830 Mb/s, and the write speed will be of 680 Mb/s. “Due to firmware optimization, the performance indicators will be 5–10% higher,” Yusupov said. To put this in perspective, the controller in a Samsung server-class SSDs released in 2018 delivers read speeds of up to 3,000MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,200MB/s.
