According to the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media (Mintsifry), in the first two quarters of 2020, Russian cellular subscribers talked for 231.7 billion minutes. This is more than 12 billion minutes more than in the same period last year.

In the first half of 2019, voice traffic compared to the first half of 2018, on the contrary, decreased by about 4% to 219 billion minutes. Before that, in 2017–2018, there was stagnation.

According to Telecom Daily, conversations using mobile phones regained popularity due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the self-isolation regime.
