MTS has developed Energosbyt-Service an IoT solution for automatic collection of data from electric meters. It includes electricity meters with a built-in NB-IoT radio module and automated commercial electricity metering systems in the cloud. According to the company, the meter automatically sends readings to the electricity metering systems of power providers.

A platform that finds business losses in power grids has also started operation. According to the developers, the software package makes it possible to identify metering devices that send underestimated readings using big data and artificial intelligence. On the basis of data from meters where theft was previously detected, a self-learning model identifies the characteristic features and analyzes the information coming from the automated commercial electricity metering systems. Suspicious consumers are displayed on a map in the interface, which is used by inspection teams to plan inspection trips.

According to the act concerning the introduction of smart electricity metering systems, from January 1, 2022, only smart electricity meters should be installed in residential buildings. In March 2022, a bill concerning a moratorium until 2024 on fines for grid companies and power suppliers that did not install smart meters was passed.
