The remote voting system has deflected over 10,000 DDoS attacks during the municipal elections in Moscow held on September 9-11. According to Artem Kostyrko, head of the Territorial Administration Improvement and Development of Smart Projects Agency of the Government of Moscow, “the system has shown stability”. “Although a number of attacks occurred, it did not affect the system or compromise its integrity. So, we believe we have technically coped with the task, and the number of votes processed online and offline shows the system is ready for further development,” he explained.
Previously Moscow remote electronic voting system was announced to have processed 50,000 requests per second at peak load.
Ministry of digital Development announced that 35,000 cyberattacks had been launched at the e-voting system (which was used in the Kaliningrad, Kursk, Novgorod, Pskov, Tomsk and Yaroslavl regions in 2022) during the entire voting period.
