The Radio Research and Development Institute (a structure of the Ministry of Digital Development) and Huawei announced the start of testing of 5G+ equipment in the 6.4-7.1 GHz bands. The tests are aimed at evaluating the functionality of the new technology and its application in the city.
The tests will determine the maximum data rate for various radio signal propagation paths. Experts of the research institute clarify that 6 GHz frequencies and the use of new equipment can partially compensate for the inaccessibility of the 3.4-3.8 GHz bands.
According to Oleg Ivanov, General Director of the Radio Research and Development Institute, the tested bands can give operators “additional 700 MHz in the most attractive middle range. This is the golden mean between coverage and high speeds.”
The Radio Research and Development Institute will present the test results to the State Commission for Radio Frequencies at the end of the first quarter of 2022.
Earlier, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin instructed the Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to submit proposals on research and development activities in the field of 6G to the government by February 14. Prior to that, the Radio Research and Development Institute had already received similar instructions from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
