According to deputy prime minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Russia plans to develop a quantum communication network connecting Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
The quantum network of about 700 km in length was launched in June 2021 and based on Russian solutions. This is the largest network in Europe and the second largest network in the world.
The deputy prime minister added that the network had already been tested, and Russian credit organizations had shown interest in it. The ITMO, as well as the Special Technology Center, Smarts-Quanttelecom and Amikon companies became the partners of Russian Railways in the construction of a pilot section of the backbone quantum network.
