The draft law on the creation of a unified state system of biometric data in Russia was adopted by the State Duma in the third reading.

Individuals will be able to independently post their biometric data using a confirmed account in the unified ESIA system. At the same time, government agencies that use biometrics for identification and authentication will have to undergo special accreditation.

Changes will be made to the law "On information, information technology and communications." Thus, the unified biometric system will acquire the status of a state information system.
