Russian retail chains have recorded growth in sales of smartphones with electronic SIM cards. According to “M.Video - Eldorado”, since the beginning of the year the demand for eSIM smartphones on the Russian market has grown 2.8 times, and in August the sales increased 3.5 times.
According to the statistics of “Svyaznoy”, from January to August the sales of smartphones with eSIM increased compared with the same period last year by 178% in kind and 158% in monetary terms.
VimpelCom claims there is a growing interest in eSIM among Russians: in seven months of 2020, the operator sold almost as many such smartphones as in the whole 2019.
At the end of June, simultaneously with Vimpelcom, Megafon started to connect subscribers using eSIM. Previously this technology was launched by Tinkoff Mobile.
