According to Sergey Popov, Director of Sberbank’s transaction business, the company may issue tokens that can be used for settlements involving digital financial assets, Prime reports.

This subject is very interesting for the bank. Probably, we can issue a stablecoin that we can peg to the ruble in accordance with the law that has been adopted recently, and it will become a basis, a tool for settlements involving other digital financial assets.

Sergey Popov

Director of the Transaction Business Division of Sberbank

Popov told reporters the details during an online discussion “Digital financial assets in practice”. The representatives of the bank’s press service told RIA Novosti that the decision on the issuance of tokens would be made soon.

At the end of July, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law that allows digital financial assets transactions, but prohibits to use cryptocurrencies as a means of payment in Russia starting from January 1, 2021.
