A project to introduce 5G communications into the metro system is being implemented in the Moscow metro, Interfax reports citing the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin.
“We are launching a large project to introduce 5G into the Moscow metro, which is one of the largest in the world. I hope that this will also be a unique project,” Sobyanin said at the plenary session of the Smart Cities Moscow online forum. The details of the project have not been announced yet.
In early March, it was announced that the State Commission for Radio Frequencies could consider an application from Freshtel (a subsidiary of Rostelecom) for testing 5G in the 3.4-3.8 GHz range in the Moscow and Kazan metro stations.
Around the same time, MTS launched the first pilot 5G user network in the 4.9 GHz band in 14 locations in Moscow.
