Six Russian centers for AI research will get grants from the government of up to $14 million (1 billion rubles) through 2024.
The funds will be received by the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), Ivannikov Institute for System Programming of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISP RAS), Innopolis University, ITMO, and HSE.
The institutions were identified by a working group of 16 experts chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. The total amount of funds, taking into account extra-budgetary funding, will amount to $97 million (7 billion rubles).
Overall, 36 organizations took part in the selection. The most popular AI areas, for which applications were received, are cross-industry AI and AI technologies for various sectors of the economy, optimization of management decisions, medicine, and manufacturing industry.
