The 2021 Cyber Security Report report by Check Point Software Technologies reveals what tools and techniques cybercriminals used in 2020 to attack organizations around the world. Cloud adoption is ahead of cloud security. In 2020, due to the pandemic, companies did what they planned to do within 5 years in a year. But public cloud security is still a major concern for 75% of companies. In addition, over 80% of businesses found their existing security tools either didn't work at all or had limited capabilities in the cloud.

Hackers have stepped up "eavesdropping" attacks. They target remote employees to steal data or penetrate the network using the Emotet and Qbot Trojans. In total, these malicious programs affected 24% of organizations worldwide. Attacks on remote access systems such as RDP and VPN have also skyrocketed.

Rise in double ransomware attacks: In Q3 2020, nearly half of all ransomware incidents involve the threat of disclosing stolen data. Attacks on the healthcare sector have turned into an epidemic: In the fourth quarter of 2020, the CPR reported that cyberattacks (especially ransomware attacks) against hospitals worldwide increased by 45%.

In 2020, 46% of organizations had at least one employee downloaded a malicious mobile app that threatens company networks and data.
