Yandex.District

Yandex, in partnership with the Ministry for Digital Development, will make it possible to log into Yandex’s services through the Unified Identification and Authentication System (ESIA). Users will also be able to reject this authorization method.

 
 Yandex experts note that ESIA can be useful in services “where additional user identification is required to boost the security of transactions for sellers and buyers.”

 
 The Ministry for Digital Development plans to introduce access through ESIA and into other Internet services used in Russia, but the exact dates and the services are not mentioned.

 
 On Wednesday, November 24, it was also <a href="https://tass.ru/ekonomika/13008039" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">announced</a> that Auto.ru, HeadHunter and Cian launched authorization through ESIA. Avito will also introduce additional account identification through the ESIA. To log in the user has to have a confirmed account on the government services portal.

Yandex Plans to Introduce Access to its Services via ESIA

Yandex has joined the international workgroup for the development of Matter, a unified protocol for a smart home.

 
 It is assumed that the developed standard will be used in all countries and take into account their specifics. As a result, smart home systems should become compatible with various services and voice assistants.

 
 According to the head of Yandex's smart devices division Sergey Melnik, "over the past year, the number of users of the company's smart home has more than quadrupled."

 Apple, Google and Amazon created the protocol at the end of 2019. At the moment, the workgroup includes more than 300 companies. The first devices based on Matter are expected in 2022.

Yandex Joins Unified Smart Home Standard Matter

Yandex has produced the first batch of servers made in Russia. They are based on the fourth generation server developed by the company. Similar computing systems are used in data centers to expand the Yandex.Cloud cloud platform and in Yandex supercomputers.

 
 The new servers are designed to work in large data centers. They are able to withstand temperatures of + 40 ° C. At the same time, they do not need an active cooling system. Now the servers are being tested within the company. The release of similar systems to the market under the Openyard brand is planned for next year. The production line will be located at a joint venture (JV) of Yandex, Lanita, Gigabyte and VTB.

 
 Earlier it was reported that investments in the joint venture would exceed 1 billion rubles. The plant will manufacture servers, storage systems, gateways and smart device components.

Yandex Releases the First Batch of its Own Servers

Russia has risen from 11th to 8th place in the list of countries for the aggregate performance of supercomputers, according to the <a href="https://www.top500.org/lists/top500/list/2021/11/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">TOP 500 ranking</a>.

 
 The list includes:

 <li>three Yandex's supercomputers,&nbsp;Chervonenkis&nbsp;(ranked 19th),&nbsp;Galushkin&nbsp;(36th) and&nbsp;Lyapunov&nbsp;(40th);&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
 <li>two supercomputers by Sberbank,&nbsp;Christofari Neo&nbsp;(43rd) and&nbsp;Christofari&nbsp;(72nd);&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
 <li>Lomonosov-2 from Moscow State University (241st);</li>
 <li>Grom&nbsp;by MTS (294th).&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
</ul>

 
 The first place in the rating for the second consecutive year is occupied by the Japanese system Fugaku. The second and third places were taken by American supercomputers: Summit and Sierra.

 
 However, China remains the leader in the ranking in terms of the number of such systems with 173 supercomputers, followed by the United States (149) and Japan (32).

Russia Climbs to No.8 in Global Ranking of Supercomputers for Aggregate Performance 

Tinkoff Bank has integrated its anti-fraud system Tinkoff Call Defender, which recognizes spoofing of official bank phone numbers, into Yandex's number identification service. As a result, customers of any telecom operators, including regional ones, will receive notification of calls from possible fraudsters, according to the press service of Tinkoff.

 
 The bank explained that when a customer’s phone receives a call, the Yandex identifier checks whether the number belongs to the bank's group. After that, Tinkoff Call Defender establishes whether the call was actually initiated by the bank. If the authenticity confirmation is not completed, the platform records the substitution of the number and informs the CLI and the customer about it.

 
 If the customer answers such a call, the bank receives a notification about this. As Tinkoff clarified, this is necessary in order to use the bank’s own anti-fraud technologies to protect client funds. In particular, the bank may suspend atypical operations with credit cards until the circumstances are clarified.
