The Ministry of Digital Development expects 3G to stay in large cities until 2025. The transition from 3G in rural areas will start in 2027. Terminals are said to be the biggest 3G shutdown issue. These are both the network operator equipment and customer devices that support the 3G and earlier standards.

 
 MTS says it will take actions following the 3G subscribers withdrawal, and notes that operators are inclined to use the 3G frequencies for actual standards, including the next-generation ones. “We are gradually changing from 3G to LTE, but for now the complete 3G network shutdown is not an option” – MegaFon company says. There is “a large number of working devices in the network with 3G support” - the operator explains. Tele2 is also not ready to announce the shutdown of 3G networks due to difficulties with network equipment availability and the slow replacement of such 3G devices as smartphones and M2M devices, including ATMs, terminals and security systems.

 Earlier it was <a href="https://ict.moscow/news/operatory-sviazi-do-kontsa-goda-podpishut-forvardnye-kontrakty-na-postavku-rossiiskikh-bazovykh-stantsii-lte-i-5g/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">reported </a>that operators would sign forward contracts for <a href="https://ict.moscow/news/rostelekom-i-tele2-nachali-zakliuchat-forvardnye-kontrakty-s-otechestvennymi-proizvoditeliami-oborudovaniia/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">supply </a>of Russian LTE and 5G base stations by the end of the year. The first contracts were signed by Rostelecom and Tele2.

3G Stays in Russian Cities till 2025

With the departure of foreign vendors, 43% of companies in the Moscow city and region are reforming information security. The plans to strengthen the direction was confirmed by 66% of organizations. According to the MTS press service, the company deduced the information together with the analysts from TelecomDaily, having polled more than 600 large- and medium-size businesses in Moscow and the region. The respondent companies operate in the fields of industry, IT and telecom, transport and logistics, the public sector, finance and insurance.

 
 Analysts say, information security will remain the top priority for companies in the near future. First of all, demand will increase for complex information security solutions, such as DDoS attack protection and firewalls, as well as strategic consulting in information security.

 
 Among the other current priorities are import substitution and digitalization of services.

MTS and TelecomDaily: 66% of Moscow Region Companies Plan to Strengthen Information Security

According to the Ministry of Digital Development, mobile internet traffic in Russia has decreased for the first time ever. In the second quarter of 2022, the traffic fell by 2.3% to 8.35 billion gigabytes (vs. 8.54 billion gigabytes in the first quarter). Up to that moment, the traffic figures had been growing quarter-to-quarter and year-to-year.

 
 Megafon confirmed the decrease in the mobile internet traffic. MTS did not see the typical growth of traffic from March till May. Tele2 recorded the decrease, but only by 1.6% in Q2.

 
 According to MTS, the traffic decrease is due to foreign Internet resources ban and the exit of foreign companies from Russia. the Ministry of Digital Development also believes the decrease to be related to foreign web services ban in Russia. The ministry notes that the Internet traffic inside Russia has significantly grown and almost replaced the services that left the market.

Ministry of Digital Development: Mobile Internet Traffic Decreased by 2.3%

The Research Computing Center of Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Joint Supercomputer Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences published the 37th version of the list of 50 most powerful supercomputers of the CIS countries. The leader is Yandex’s Chervonenkis supercomputer, it delivers 21.5 PFlop/s. The Galushkin (16 PFlop/s) and Lyapunov (12.8 PFlop/s) systems were ranked second and third.

 
 Sber’s Christofari and Christofari Neo supercomputers are also among the top five. The top 10 also includes the systems of Lomonosov Moscow State University, MTS, Rosgidromet, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and HSE.

Yandex Supercomputers Top Ranking of CIS Computer Systems

According to A.Partners estimates, Russian investment funds have concluded 31 deals with IT startups from January to August, while during the same period of 2021, 121 deals were concluded. The average deal value has grown from 10.5 million dollars (630 million rubles, Central Bank exchange rate for September 16) in 2021 to 14 million dollars (840 million rubles) in 2022. The venture capital deals of institutional and large industry investors account for a significant share of all deals, without them the “average check decreases significantly”.

 
 One of the investment funds confirms to have lowered the bottom limit of the average check. Previously it had been of 300-500 million rubles (4.74-7.9 million dollars) for investing in an IT startup, and the investment rounds of B2C projects had been up to 2 billion rubles (31.6 million dollars). At the moment the average deal value is of 20-30 million rubles (316,000-474,000 dollars).

 
 MTS venture fund also says, the number of investment deals has decreased. The fund keeps the bottom limit at 0.5 million dollars (29.8 million rubles), but has raised the upper limit to 5 million dollars (298.1 million rubles), while in 2021 it was of 2 million dollars (191.2 million rubles).
