Amendments to the law that increase the number of uses for biometrics and clarify requirements for data security are likely to be adopted by the end of 2020. Izvestia writes about this with reference to Anatoly Aksakov, head of the State Duma committee on the financial market.
This will allow banks to commercialize facial recognitions payments in shops and cafes. In terms of clarifying the rules for storing and processing data, credit institutions and Rostelecom (acting as the operator of the EBS) will be given time to bring the systems in line, explained the head of the financial market committee.  Rostelecom is counting on the adoption of the bill by the end of 2020, the company said.

In the first reading, the bill was approved in July 2019, and then its consideration was frozen. Now  face and voice data from the state unified biometric system can be used only for remote opening of deposits.
