Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with Andrey Lipov, head of Roskomnadzor. They discussed the agency’s efforts to protect personal data.

In particular, Lipov explained that there were a lot of problems in the field of processing personal data of the citizens. The agency estimates that there are about 5 million private companies processing personal data in Russia.

Lipov proposed to extend the statute of limitations for cyber crimes to 1 year, to provide the legitimate authority to inspect the chain of data transmission from one processor to the next, to develop instrumental control over the processing of this data.

In addition, according to Lipov, the state has the right to determine other countries that improperly process the personal data of citizens. He also offered "to think about clearer regulation" in the area of processing biometric data.
