Moscow IT Department: Mobile Traffic in the City Grows by a Quarter in 2021

According to the data by the IT of Moscow Government, in 2021 the volume of traffic consumed in the cellular networks in Moscow increased by an average of 28% compared to 2020. Mobile Internet speed increased by 8.7% and reached 40 Mbps.

The traffic in fixed-line networks in 2021 increased by an average of 25%. In particular, the amount of data transfer from online cinemas increased by 40%.

Currently, there are more than 50 million active SIM cards in Moscow, which are used to connect IoT devices, among other things. The volume of investments of the “big four” operators in the development of the communication infrastructure of Moscow increased by 9% last year. As the DIT of Moscow specified, “today Moscow is more than 50 percent superior to other regions of Russia in terms of the quality and speed of mobile Internet.”

Earlier Beeline reported that mobile Internet traffic in Moscow at the beginning of January 2022 had grown by almost 50% year over year.
