International experts highly appreciate conditions Moscow provides for the successful creation and development of startups.
Moscow ranked 20th in the “Top 100 emerging startup ecosystems”, placing the Russian capital ahead of Taipei, Milan, Chengdu, Hamburg and Vienna. The overall efficiency of startup ecosystems, the level of funding, its availability and talent development were used in the assessment.
Startup Genome consulting company published “Top 100 emerging startup ecosystems” ranking as a part of the global report on startup ecosystems (The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2020).
In the overall ranking, Moscow attained the highest scores for two out of the four indicators - availability of funding and the level of talent development and experience. The assessment of the availability of investment was carried out based on the amount of funding at early stages, its dynamics, the increase in the number of investors and also their experience. “Talent and experience” indicator included the number of technology specialists, the number of programmers registered on Github (the largest web service for hosting IT-projects and their joint development), as well as the average salary in the industry and the number of exits (sales of their shares by shareholders - founders and investors) over the past 10 years.
The ranking includes 270 ecosystems from over 100 countries and was prepared by Startup Genome consulting company. Over 65 cities in 30 countries use Startup Genome services in startup ecosystems development.
