MTS became the first company in Russia to obtain a license for providing 5G mobile services. The license that expires on July 16, 2025 was granted to MTS by Roskomnadzor to create a network that will cover almost all regions of Russia (83 out of 85). Communication will be provided in 24.25-24.65 GHz frequency range in accordance with 5G/IMT-2020 standard.

Company representatives note that large enterprises and business will become the first users of the 5G network.

“5G standard will allow corporate clients to actively use artificial intelligence, IoT, AR and VR technologies for remote control of equipment, driverless vehicles development, interactive educational programs and creation of the latest quality control systems at production sites” commented Alexey Kornya, President of MTS.

The license was granted to MTS on the basis of the decision of the State Commission for Radio Frequencies dated March 17, 2020 allowing “an indefinite range of persons to use 24.25-24.65 GHz frequency band by radio electronic means of 5G/IMT-2020 standard in the territory of the Russian Federation".
