The Qrator Labs network security company released the annual National Internet Stability Rating. Russia took the 14th place in the top 20, and the maximum percentage of possible network failures was 5.5% compared to last year’s 5.08%.
According to CEO of Qrator Labs Alexander Lyamin, the Russia’s position lowered due to the increased consolidation in the telecom market. “This is a long-term trend: large players on the operators’ market are buying the smaller ones,” he says. As a result, technological consolidation of networks takes place, and there happens an increase in the number of single failure points (a system node which failure leads to network shutdown) and the general decrease in their stability, the expert explains.
This year, the United States, which was ranked 17th a year earlier, did not make it into the ranking, as well as Thailand and Spain. Ireland, Belgium and Hong Kong entered the ranking again.
The rating was prepared based on the results of the study of national web segments of 249 countries and reflects the availability of national Internet segments in case of failures in the work of the most significant telecom operators.
