According to RAEC estimates, which were announced at the opening of the RIF, the audience of Runet in 2021 amounted to 97.5 million users, or 79.9% of the country’s population. 90.2 million users use the mobile Internet to go online (73.8% of the population). Spending on mobile apps has grown by almost 50% in 2021.
The contribution of Runet economy to Russia’s GDP last year increased by 42% compared to 2020 and amounted to 9.5 trillion rubles (≈ $150 billion). Of these 9.5 trillion rubles (≈ $150 billion), the e-commerce segment accounted for 8.65 trillion rubles (≈ $136 billion; 44% increase), the infrastructure segment accounted for 204.3 billion rubles (≈ $3.2 billion; 34% increase), marketing and advertising accounted for 432 billion rubles (≈ $6.8 billion; 24% increase), and the digital content segment accounted for 153.4 billion rubles (≈ $2.4 billion; 24% increase).
