By the end of the year Russia plans to complete tests of BES-KF - a system for automated and remote control of ships.

Based on the results of the tests, the government can decide to use autonomous ships as part of a national experiment until 2025. A draft government decree has already been prepared and sent to the Cabinet of Ministers, and a draft federal law on autonomous fleet and technical regulation standards have also been prepared.

Marine vehicles can become the first type of autonomous transport allowed for commercial operation. Moreover, the specifics of international conventions will make their application legal not only in Russia, but all over the world, provided that the vessels are under the Russian flag. Thus, the goal of the project is to ensure the massive use of autonomous ship navigation technology throughout the entire water area of the Earth.
