Skoltech acquired a complete software stack based on the OpenRAN architecture for 4G and 5G base stations from the American corporation Radisys. The deal value was not disclosed.

The company notes that it obtained rights to own, develop and sell software based on the Radisys, which make such products domestic and unrestricted by foreign companies.

Skoltech plans to produce Russian software for 5G networks in 2022.

Konstantin Ankilov, CEO of TMT Consulting, believes that OpenRAN solutions will be in demand by operators, especially taking into account import substitution requirements. And Denis Kuskov, CEO of TelecomDaily, is skeptical about the prospects of such solutions, since 4G and 5G networks are complete turnkey solutions and operators do not need just software alone.
