The engineering center of National Research Nuclear University MEPhI created a model of a two-channel 5G base station with a radio-photonic antenna module on the basis of the Open 5GS project. During the creation of the mockup, microwave photonics technologies were used for wavelength-division multiplexing and UpLink/Downlink transmission multiplexing.
The scientists of the center are developing their own stack of hardware and software modules for the O-RU antenna system in the Sub-6GHz and mmWave bands. In particular, the center plans to create its own IP modules in compliance with the OpenRAN specification: nFAPI data translation module, PHY, DDC/DUC, CFR/DPD modules, radio part control modules.
