T2 RTK Holding (Tele2 brand, owned by Rostelecom) initiated restructuring with the subsequent spin-off of the tower business into an independent legal entity. Tele2 says that “the formation of the tower company has not been completed yet”, and “different options of infrastructure management” are being discussed.
In November 2021, president of Rostelecom Mikhail Oseevsky announced the plans to create a separate organization for tower infrastructure. Then he said that there was no task to sell the towers quickly. Later, in May of this year, head of Rostelecom specified that the company would not sell towers within the next two years.
According to AC&M Consulting, at the end of 2020 there were 85,000 antenna mast structures in Russia, of which about 13,000 were owned by Tele2.
Beeline and MegaFon quit the tower assets in 2021. VEON (Beeline head company) sold about 15.4 thousand antenna mast structures to Service-Telecom for 70 billion rubles. Kismet Capital Group holding acquired the First Tower Company with 17,000 towers from MegaFon. At the beginning of 2022, MTS also planned to sell the tower company with 23 thousand antenna mast structures. Now, according to Kommersant, the company “continues to consider various scenarios, observethe interest in the asset and communicate with potential investors”.
