X5 Retail Group has developed a service for scanning and paying for goods using an app. Until the end of September it will be tested in 90 stores in Moscow.

To make a purchase without going to a cash desk, the customer needs to download the “Express-Scan” application from App Store or Google Play. “Express Scan” is X5’s own development. The buyer has to scan the QR code at the entrance of the store, and then the barcodes of the selected products. After that, he can pay for the purchases in the app or at the self-service checkout. Customers can use MasterCard and Visa cards, as well as Google Pay and Apple Pay services.

In June, Sberbank, the Azbuka Vkusa supermarket chain and the Visa payment system announced the completion of testing and the full opening of a store without cash registers and cashiers in Moscow.
