According to Startup Barometer 2020 research study, SaaS projects became the most popular in 2020: 9% of respondents develop them, AI technologies moved to second place compared to last year, followed by EdTech and Hardware.

  • 72% of startups operate in a  B2B segment, which is 5 percentage points less than a year ago. At the same time, 35% of startup founders are focused on services and products for small and medium-sized businesses. The number of solutions developed for the end user has grown significantly, from 14% to 48%.
  • Key target industries consided by startup founders are: IT, education, medicine, robotics and mechanical engineering, and transport. While the first two remained at the last year's level, the number of projects for the medical sector increased by 5 percentage points.
  • 37% number of founders are originally from Moscow; the number of entrepreneurs from St. Petersburg remained at the same level (9%). The remaining 54% are representatives of the regions. The top five are Perm, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Yekaterinburg.
