 According to experts, “operators will try to go beyond the traditional business and […] develop digital asset management.” They believe that today it is important for representatives of the telecom market to increase marginality and develop additional services. The most promising areas for telecom, according to analysts, are cloud computing, media and fintech.

The Radio Research and Development Institute (a structure of the Ministry of Digital Development) and Huawei announced the start of testing of 5G+ equipment in the 6.4-7.1 GHz bands. The tests are aimed at evaluating the functionality of the new technology and its application in the city.

 
 The tests will determine the maximum data rate for various radio signal propagation paths. Experts of the research institute clarify that 6 GHz frequencies and the use of new equipment can partially compensate for the inaccessibility of the 3.4-3.8 GHz bands.

 
 According to Oleg Ivanov, General Director of the Radio Research and Development Institute, the tested bands can give operators “additional 700 MHz in the most attractive middle range. This is the golden mean between coverage and high speeds.”

 
 The Radio Research and Development Institute will present the test results to the State Commission for Radio Frequencies at the end of the first quarter of 2022.

Moscow plans to launch a fare payment system with Face Pay in ground transport system in 2023.

 
 “We want Face Pay to be launched on the Moscow Central Circle this year as well. And the next stage will come in 2023, the system will be implemented at the Moscow Central Diameters, some of its elements will be installed in the ground transport,” Deputy Mayor and Head of the Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov explained.

 
 According to Liksutov, about 70 thousand people have already registered their biometrics to pay fares using Face Pay. About 5.5 thousand passengers use the service. Maxim Liksutov assumes that in the next two to three years the number of passengers who use Face Pay will increase to 15%.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin directed the relevant agencies to submit proposals to the government for research and development activities in the field of 6G communication.

 
 The deadline is February 14. In addition, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Energy were required to submit initiatives to the Government to stimulate demand for domestic systems and professional radio communications means of the DRM standard by June 30.

 Earlier, the Radio Research and Development Institute (NIIR) and Skoltech estimated that 6G could arrive in Russia in 2035.

Russian Government to Prepare Proposals for the Development of 6G Communication Networks

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko has approved a road map for regulating cryptocurrencies. The document was adopted for the period until the end of 2022.

 
 The road map entails the regulation of cryptocurrencies, customer identification, liability for violations and the possible localization of crypto platforms in the Russian Federation. The road map does not envisage banning cryptocurrencies.

 
 The document includes the following proposals:

<ul>
 <li>to work out “the attributes and functionality of a compliance control system for the activities of organizers, operators and clients of P2P platforms (for transactions between individuals) and other systems, including virtual asset service providers” by May 2022;</li>
 <li>to finalize the provisions of the “regulatory-restrictive regime” for the activities of virtual asset service providers, determine the status of market participants and the rules for their procedures;</li>
 <li>to develop mechanisms for registration and reporting of organizations through which virtual assets circulate in Russia by December;</li>
 <li>determine responsibility for crimes using cryptocurrencies;</li>
 <li>to create a mechanism for verifying the accuracy of the provided information on the ownership of digital currencies;</li>
 <li>to finalize the draft law on informing about the facts of ownership of digital currencies and transactions with them;</li>
 <li>to introduce administrative liability for illegal circulation of digital financial assets and violation of the rules for transactions with them;</li>
 <li>to determine the procedure for identifying clients of digital currency exchange operators.</li>
</ul>

 
 The proposals included in the road map were supported by a number of agencies, including the Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Economic Development. The Central Bank did not support these proposals. Previously, the regulator advocated a ban on the circulation of cryptocurrency in Russia. An RBC source close to the interdepartmental working group that developed the document claimed that “a complete ban is impossible and will entail turning to the shadow markets”.

Russia Approved the Road Map for Regulating Cryptocurrencies

The turnover of the online retailer Wildberries increased by 93% and reached $11,3 billion (844 billion rubles including VAT) in 2021. In Q4 2021 this figure amounted to $4 billion (304.8 billion rubles) - 101% more than in Q4 2020.

 
 The company expects that last year’s profit will amount to approximately billion $241 million (18 billion rubles). The funds will be used to build new logistics complexes, improve the quality of services and expand the product range.

 
 In 2021 the number of orders on the marketplace increased by 146% and reached 808.6 million, and the consumer audience reached 113 million users. The company has also entered the markets of 11 countries in the US and Europe. The retailer’s geographic reach currently covers 19 countries.

Wildberries Increased Turnover by 93% in 2021

QSpace Technologies startup, which develops quantum satellite communication systems, has raised $900.000 (71.7 million rubles) from Gazprombank. The funds raised will be used to create a small CubeSat satellite with a quantum key distribution system (QKD) transmitter on board.

 
 The launch of the satellite is scheduled for 2023. The project will cost about $2.7 million (220 million rubles) by the end of 2024. Today QKD provides the highest possible level of information security, but the technology has limitations due to the use of fiber optic cable (transmission distance up to 200 km). QSpace hopes that this problem can be solved with the help of a spacecraft with a trusted node function.

Quantum Satellites Developer QSpace Technologies Raised Investments from Gazprombank

The KORUS Consulting group of companies and Yandex.Cloud, within the framework of cooperation, will develop solutions based on cloud technologies for the Russian and international markets.

 
 KORUS Consulting uses the capabilities of Yandex.Cloud to implement and develop analytical and infrastructure projects. At the same time, domestic and foreign companies will be able to use Yandex.Cloud for storing and managing data, synthesizing and recognizing speech, analyzing big data, and applying machine learning technologies. The capacities will be used in the framework of data management projects, in the construction of corporate storage and analytical systems.

 
 KORUS Consulting will also offer services in the areas of SaaS, PaaS and cognitive services directly, in the "single window" mode.

KORUS Consulting and Yandex.Cloud to Jointly Create Cloud Solutions for Global Companies

Rosatom this year will present a draft of the second roadmap for the development of quantum computing.

 
 The state corporation clarified that in the period from 2025 to 2030, the key tasks will be the creation of a common network of quantum computers in Russia. Later, on its basis, it is planned to create a “quantum Internet”. According to Ruslan Yunusov, head of the project office for quantum technologies at Rosatom, this network will speed up the performance of devices “by tens and hundreds of millions of times.”

 At the end of last year, as part of the roadmap for quantum computing, Russian scientists <a href="https://ict.moscow/en/news/russian-scientists-create-a-prototype-of-a-quantum-computer-based-on-ions/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">presented</a> a prototype of a quantum computer based on ions. By 2024, it is expected to become the basis of a future cloud-accessible quantum computer.

Rosatom to Present a Draft Roadmap for the Creation of a Quantum Internet in 2022

Sberbank intends to acquire 100% of the Russian unit of Stockmann. The parties plan to sign a binding agreement in the first half of 2022, which will require the approval of the parties and the approval of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service. The amount of the deal is not disclosed.

 
 When the agreement is signed, SberMegaMarket and Stockmann marketplace will be integrated. Through the deal, Sberbank plans to strengthen its position in e-commerce and expand the fashion segment in the total turnover of the e-commerce services of the ecosystem.
