Action-MCFR conducted a study of the online education market and compiled a ranking of Russian edtech companies for the first quarter of 2020.
- The total revenue of the top-30 edtech companies in the first quarter of 2020 is estimated at 2.8 billion rubles. For the same period last year this figure amounted to approximately 1.9 billion rubles.
- Demand for free content is increasing, especially given the fact that many companies have expanded access to it. The number of viewers of free live broadcasts in Skillbox has grown by 100-150%, and the number of users of free products of the EnglishDom online English language school has increased by 70-80%.
- 38.5% of companies claim their revenue was lower than expected in the first quarter of 2020. 30.8% report that the results exceeded the expectations, but nearly half claim that real growth was only marginally higher than the predicted growth.
- One third of companies (30.7%) report that the figures neither exceeded nor went below the planned indicators. Only 40% of companies have higher Q1 growth rates than the average growth rate in 2019
