Moscow Carsharing

description:

Carsharing (short-term rental service with per-minute charges) services in Moscow are developed by Delimobil, Citydrive, BelkaCar, Yandex.Drive. To rent a car, users need to register in the mobile app of the operator. To register, drivers attach photos of the passport and driving license, and then sign an agreement. The verification process may take several days.

When the rental period is over, the driver can leave the car within the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD), and in several areas outside the Moscow Ring Road and at airports. The user of the service does not pay for parking in paid parking areas.

To increase the safety of carsharing services, many operators have introduced the evaluation of driving style, which is used to calculate the driver’s rating, and the enhanced identification system during registration and at the start of rental. The implementation of telematics, the introduced fines and the restriction of access for dangerous driving help to reduce the number of accidents involving carsharing vehicles - today there are less such accidents than those involving private cars.

key indicators:
  • The project was launched in 2015
  • The Moscow car sharing fleet is the largest in the world — over 30,000 vehicles
  • The service is actively used by more than 1 million people
  • 211 million rides have been completed since the launch of the service
  • The average route length for car sharing trips in Moscow is 15.2 km, and the average duration is 40 minutes
  • In 2022, 133,000 trips were made every 24 hours, and one vehicle was used seven times a day
  • On average, carsharing vehicles in Moscow are two years old, no vehicle is older than 5 years
