The AI-based chatbot collecting patient’s symptoms before an appointment is a service of the EMIAS platform that reduces the time that doctors spend on collecting anamnesis and information about the patient’s health.
The chatbot was trained using data from anonymized electronic health records of the patient and information from open reference books and medical databases. Practicing physicians were also involved — they helped develop the rules for the artificial intelligence system, developed lists of clarifying questions for the most popular symptoms, conducted testing and provided feedback.
The service is available to patients who are 18 years of age and older for booking an appointment with specialists such as a general practitioner, gynecologist, otolaryngologist or surgeon, and to parents of children under 18 for booking an appointment with a pediatrician.
After patients schedule an appointment in the EMIAS.INFO mobile app or on the emias.info portal, they can fill out the questionnaire to submit information about symptoms by pressing the ‘Complete the questionnaire’ button. If the resident uses another channel to book an appointment, he/she has to follow the link from an SMS or a push notification which will be sent when the appointment is scheduled, as well as on the day before the appointment. Patients can complete the questionnaire again, if the symptoms change, or just ignore the notification.
