The city video surveillance system is a centralized control tool in the fields of housing services and utilities, landscaping and security, which uses the video analytics function.
Currently, more than 213,000 cameras of two types are connected to Moscow’s video surveillance system. The system includes more than 164,000 cameras installed under government contracts using the VSaaS model — in public places, in the yards of residential buildings and at entrances, in social and educational organizations, in retail facilities, in the halls of government institutions and other public places. The system also has more than 49,000 cameras of external video surveillance systems — cameras in city parks, at transport infrastructure facilities, sports, educational facilities, cultural facilities and commercial organizations (shopping centers, shops, banks and other facilities).
In total, Moscow’s video surveillance system processes about 1.8 billion hours of video footage per year. More than 15,700 employees of municipal departments and law enforcement agencies have access to the system. CCTV cameras help them control the quality of urban area improvement, yard cleaning and garbage removal, the progress of construction of key social facilities, and detect illegal construction activities and violations of trade processes, control the placement of advertisements, regulate traffic flows and improve safety and security. Recordings from city cameras are used in the investigation of 70% of offenses in Moscow. In 2021, more than 7,100 crimes were solved with the help of CCTV cameras.
Since the beginning of 2020, 105,000 cameras of the system have been connected to the face recognition module. It helps law enforcement agencies find offenders.
