The service for reserving archives from the cameras of the city’s video surveillance system is a tool helping residents investigate incidents or offenses they have encountered. For example, residents can extend the storage of part of the video archive, and the law enforcement agencies can examine it and understand the circumstances of an accident, help resolve a domestic dispute or find a missing pet.
Currently, the city’s video surveillance system includes more than 213,000 cameras that are installed in courtyards, entrances, social organizations, trade facilities, in parks, at stadiums, transport hubs and other important facilities. Camera recordings are sent to the unified data storage and processing center. The footage is stored for five days. Only employees of the city’s departments and law enforcement agencies have access to the recordings.
Residents cannot view camera footage themselves. However, in case of an offense or an emergency, the resident can call the hotline of the city video surveillance system and reserve the archive from a particular camera for 30 days. The operator will give the resident the number of the request. The resident has to tell the number of the request to the law enforcement official who is investigating the incident. The official will be able to examine the footage and help the resident.
