Pneumonia calculator (CT Calculator) is an AI-based service that helps doctors evaluate the condition of lungs of a patient by analyzing blood, saturation and general clinical picture. The main task of the new digital service is to help doctors predict the severity of pneumonia caused by COVID-19.
The CT Calculator, which was trained on the big data of more than 500,000 medical records, helps the doctor predict the possibility of a mild, moderate or severe case of pneumonia, determine whether it is necessary to conduct computed tomography or take the patient to hospital, or to decide that there is no need for additional examination. This is especially important for those who need constant monitoring of health conditions: the service helps avoid frequent CT examinations.
The pneumonia calculator is integrated into Moscow’s EMIAS system, but it is available to specialists not only in Moscow, but also in other regions of Russia and in other countries. The medical professional has to fill in the necessary parameters on the basis of the blood test and the results of the patient’s examination on the page of the service. After that, the system displays a predictive model of the degree of lung damage, on the basis of which the doctor will be able to decide on the further treatment.
The project was created and is being implemented by the Moscow Social Development Complex and the IT Department of Moscow Government. The service was developed with the participation of researchers from the Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The CT Calculator was presented at the largest international medical exhibition MEDICA 2021 in Dusseldorf and was rated highly by foreign experts
