‘Electronic Prescription’ is a service of the Unified Medical Information and Analysis System of Moscow (EMIAS), which allows doctors to issue electronic prescriptions with a QR code. With the help of the service, residents can get medicines in pharmacies without paper prescriptions.
Since 2014, prescriptions have been issued via EMIAS, which helped to halve the time for issuing prescriptions. From February 2021, there is no need to print out prescription forms — doctors sign the prescriptions with their electronic signature. Both prescriptions for subsidized medications and prescriptions for buying full-price medications are issued in this format.
Patients can show the QR code at the pharmacy on the smartphone screen to get the prescribed medications. The pharmacist instantly receives detailed information from the EMIAS database by scanning the QR code.
If patients cannot show the QR code from the smartphone screen for some reason, since May 2021 they have been able to print the prescription at the information kiosk of the polyclinic by scanning the compulsory health insurance certificate. Patients can also get their medicines at pharmacies in city clinics by showing a compulsory health insurance certificate instead of an e-prescription with a QR code.
